The Leadership Institute is a focused, seven-day program where highly accomplished community leaders with varied backgrounds focus on community trusteeship, decision-making skills and leadership styles. The seven, full-day sessions are held every other week April through June.

The program will enable these distinguished individuals to better serve the public interest by providing access to diverse perspectives on issues and the process of issue resolution. By its unique design, Leadership Institute will take the community leader to a higher level of understanding of the evolving political, social, and civic, structures of our community and the interaction of these elements.

The Leadership Institute provides an opportunity for citizens of integrity acknowledged for their business, political and civic expertise to enhance their ability to manage, coach and share.

During seven one-day sessions, participants in The Leadership Institute learn together aided by key business, government and community champions - to exercise their tolerance for flexible responses to adversity, hone their decision-making skills, and to enhance their vision and competence.

All applicants must have exceptional accomplishments in community, government or business. Once accepted, participants will receive a book of suggested readings for use throughout the Institute.

In addition to group involvement, each participant will receive their own customized profile and personal achievement plan to assist in enhancing personal leadership goals.

The Chamber recognized the need for a program that would provide the business community of Collier County with the opportunity to heighten their leadership skills. The 2001 Chairman of the Board, Terri Douglas issued a challenge to Robert Peacock, Johnston and Peacock, CPAs, to take on the role as chairman of the first delegation of Leadership Institute. A steering committee was created and with the help of past chairman of The Chamber, the program began in January 2001.
