Naples'
year-round sunny weather is perfect for exploring
the outdoors. Despite being in one of the fastest
growing areas in the country, Naples and surrounding
Collier County still maintains many of its natural
features and attractions.
In addition to the sandy white beaches
for which Naples is famous, Southwest Florida's Gulf
Coast is home to a massive ecosystem. Rent a kayak
or a canoe for a day and explore all of the pristine
bays, inlets, estuaries, and mangrove forests that
house our many natural resources.
You might also consider taking an
airboat ride through the Florida Everglades, the largest
subtropical wilderness in the United States. You'll
be able to see firsthand the indigenous wildlife and
plant life that make this internationally famous area
so important to the environment.
Closer to Naples proper are a variety
of natural preserves and nature centers. The Conservancy
of Naples, an organization devoted to protecting Southwest
Florida's natural resources, operates two nature centers:
The Naples Nature Center and the Briggs Nature Center.
Both offer programs designed to educate visitors about
Southwest Florida's delicate ecosystem, the Everglades,
and more.
Other natural preserves include Big
Cypress Preserve, Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State
Park and Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. Each park offers
visitors a unique opportunity to see rare plant, animal,
and bird species, all indigenous to Southwest Florida.
