The Distinguished Public Service Awards recognize the outstanding contribution by an individual or team to their respective public service profession and to the well-being of Collier County. Established in 2003, these awards are presented annually by The Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce in honor of our first responders.

Our 2018 DPSA keynote speaker is Charlie Connolly!
Charlie has a 62 year career in the public and private sector, beginning in the New York City Police Department. Upon successfully achieving every civil service rank in that department, he was appointed Yonkers Police Commissioner and subsequently the Director of Police & Security with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, the world’s largest health care system.
His private sector experience includes eight years as Chief Security Officer for Merrill Lynch, responsible for its 82,000 employees in 900 facilities in 44 countries and the nations fifty states. Connolly was also an adjunct professor at four metropolitan New York Colleges and one semester at West Point. He has been a guest speaker in the U.K., Ireland, Australia, Canada and the U.S. National War College and numerous IACP conferences.
A former editorial consultant for McGraw Hill and Stoeger Publications, training consultant for Northwestern University and the University of Delaware. He was a consultant to the Anser Institute for Homeland Defense involving leaders from Public Health, Agriculture, Law Enforcement and Intelligence exploring biological and agricultural anti-terrorism initiates.
For the past twenty-two years, Connolly has been a founding member of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Steering Committee serving with Secretaries of States and Defense, Directors of the CIA, FBI and National Security, an Attorney General and various members of congress on Transnational Terrorist Threats. In 2010, Security Magazine named him “One of the Twenty Five Most Influential People in Security”. While serving as editor of their newsletter for twelve years, Charlie was elected in 2011 as President of FBI National Executive Institute Associates, an International organization comprised of Chief Law Enforcement Executive graduates of the FBI’s most prestigious training program.
