David Lawrence Centers recognizes National Recovery Month by highlighting pathways to recovery
David Lawrence Centers for Behavioral Health, Collier County’s only comprehensive, not-for-profit behavioral health provider, is recognizing September as National Recovery Month by celebrating individuals in recovery and highlighting the treatment, resources and community support that contribute to lasting recovery.
Observed each September, National Recovery Month raises awareness that recovery from mental health and substance use disorders is possible. The observance also recognizes the strength of those in recovery and the professionals, families and community members who support them along the way.
“Every recovery journey is different, and each person needs the right combination of treatment, stability, connection and ongoing support,” said Maggie Baldwin, director of Crossroads Substance Use Recovery at David Lawrence Centers. “National Recovery Month gives us an opportunity to honor the determination of those rebuilding their lives while continuing to foster a community where asking for help is met with compassion, dignity and hope.”
DLC provides a continuum of evidence-based substance use treatment and recovery support designed to meet individuals at different stages of their journey. Services include inpatient detoxification, inpatient residential treatment, outpatient programs, aftercare services and sober living. Together, these programs help individuals address the physical, emotional and behavioral aspects of substance use disorders while developing the skills and stability needed to move forward.
In fiscal year 2025, DLC served nearly 270 individuals through Crossroads, its residential rehabilitation program for adults facing substance use and co-occurring mental health challenges. The program provides individualized treatment in a structured, therapeutic environment, helping participants build healthy coping skills, strengthen relationships and prepare for the next stage of recovery.
Recovery support also continues beyond formal treatment. DLC’s recovery residence program offers safe, structured and substance-free housing where individuals can establish healthy routines, build accountability, benefit from peer connection and remain close to treatment and recovery resources as they work toward independent living.
DLC also works to prevent substance misuse and strengthen community well-being through the DLC Wellness Institute. Using evidence-based trainings, classroom presentations, community workshops and partnerships, the institute equips participants with practical tools to recognize early warning signs, build resilience and connect people with help. In fiscal year 2025, DLC’s prevention and education initiatives reached approximately 13,000 community members.
“Recovery does not happen in isolation,” said Baldwin. “Families, friends, employers and neighbors all play an important role in creating environments where people feel supported rather than judged. By reducing stigma and helping people connect with care, we can make recovery more attainable for individuals and families throughout our community.”
For more than 55 years, DLC has been committed to ensuring behavioral health care is available to everyone in need through education, prevention, intervention and treatment. DLC delivers care throughout the community through six distinct centers of operation, including mental health, addiction recovery, emergency services, awareness and prevention, virtual care, and children and young adults.
