STARability partners with BCB Homes for fifth annual Coastal Cleanup

STARability Foundation recently celebrated the fifth annual Coastal Cleanup with BCB Homes, continuing a partnership rooted in inclusion, community engagement and a shared mission to Keep Collier Beautiful. 

Held at Lowdermilk Beach as part of the International Coastal Cleanup initiative, the event brings STARability participants and BCB Homes employees together to collect litter and help care for one of Naples’ most treasured coastal spaces while fostering relationships through a shared purpose. The event creates natural opportunities for connection and teamwork while volunteers protect the community they call home. 

“The Coastal Cleanup is a powerful reflection of the inclusive community we work to build every day,” said Madison Nehls, chief program officer of STARability Foundation. “Over the past five years, this event has brought our STARs and BCB Homes employees together around a shared purpose, creating meaningful connections while making a positive impact on our area. We are grateful for BCB Homes’ ongoing partnership and its commitment to advancing inclusion through employment, volunteerism and community engagement.”

The event is just one example of BCB Homes’ continued investment in STARability’s mission to transform the lives of individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. In addition to sponsoring numerous events, the home builder has created lasting opportunities for participants in STARability’s Trailblazer Academy by providing industry tours and extending employment offers to two STARs. Most recently, BCB Homes team members participated in STARability’s Disability Inclusion Training, further strengthening the company’s commitment to fostering an accessible, inclusive and welcoming workplace. Together, these efforts provide participants with valuable exposure to the workplace, build confidence and strengthen the skills needed to pursue meaningful employment and greater independence. 

Beyond supporting volunteer and employment opportunities, STARability’s Career Services team continues to develop trainings and workforce inclusion initiatives aimed at helping local businesses and organizations better understand accessibility and inclusion practices.
